Have you heard of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)?
FASD affects between 3-5% of the population, however within care experienced children and young people up to 33% may be affected. This makes it an important and significant issue for many adoptive families. Common challenges include difficulty with executive functioning skills, memory, social and emotional development, language, learning and cognition.
This short session will provide a brief introduction to FASD, its prevalence, how alcohol affects the developing fetus and discuss some of the common challenges people with FASD may experience.
Delivered by the FASD Hub Scotland team from Adoption UK the presenters, who have lived experience of parenting young people with FASD, will be on hand to answer questions and signpost to further information and support.
