Details

Business support colleagues are often at the frontline of speaking to and liaising with applicants in adoption agencies. They regularly have to the expectations applicants might have about the process, the agency and about the adoption journey itself. This involves managing emotions, be they positive hopeful feelings or feelings of frustration, distress or anger. Understanding where such emotions come from and why they must be managed sensitively, helps us to manage difficult conversations and this short seminar will focus on both of these aspects, as well as how colleagues can support one another and process how they are left feeling.

Learning 0utcomes

  • Greater understanding of the impact of infertility and loss on prospective adopters and their emotional states.
  • Techniques to manage and diffuse difficult conversations.
  • Being clear in communications and helping applicants to manage expectations.
  • Understanding the role of emotional intelligence in our work
