Early Permanence
Early permanence (EP) is an umbrella term including both Fostering for Adoption (FfA) and Concurrent Planning placements (CPP). Early permanence ensures that, when appropriate, a child is placed in foster care with a family who can adopt them, if that is the decision made by the Court.
Significant evidence shows that early permanence (EP) can give young children security, and reduce uncertainty where adoption is a possible outcome.
The CVAA Practice Programme runs a number of sessions focused on EP, including both expert-led and practice sharing training. You can find the latest sessions here.
Coram’s Centre for Early Permanence have also produced a set of FAQs on early permanence and also have an Early Permanence Network. To find out more or join, click here.
In addition, Adoption England have collated a number of resources for professionals focused on early permanence, including videos from previous conferences which are available here and an Early Permanence Planning Practice Guide, as well as the National Standards for Early Permanence. Practitioners can also sign up to be part of Adoption England’s Early Permanence practice & service development group which focuses on disseminating learning and acts as a consultative forum for a range of developments and resources by emailing nationalwork@nationaladoption.leeds.gov.uk.
