In April 2026, EurAdopt, a collective of European adoption agencies including the UK, hosted their 16th international conference in Malta, Reflecting on Intercountry Adoption: Integrating lived experience, research and knowledge. In May 2026, CoramBAAF, the membership organisation for UK professionals working across adoption, fostering and kinship care, hosted their annual adoption conference, Can modern adoption meet the needs of today’s children and families? As chair of both events, Satwinder Sandhu, CEO of CVAA will share the key lessons emerging from both conferences and his reflections as he approaches the end of his 30th year in social work and CVAA’s perspectives on adoption in 2026.

About the trainer
Satwinder Sandhu
Satwinder is a leader in the adoption sector, influencing national and international practice and policy. He is a qualified social worker with thirty-years of work experience in adoption, fostering and children in public care. Satwinder is passionate about how adoption needs to modernise and focusing this evolution on the needs, and experiences, of adopted people. Satwinder is a TEDx speaker and a member of numerous sector Boards, including the Rees Centre, University of Oxford.

This focused, one-hour session will explore how adoption agencies can use an AI tool to enhance their practice. Emma Simpson, the CEO of CCS Adoption, will explain how their agency uses the Magic Notes AI tool to streamline administrative tasks, capture richer information, improve quality of meetings and free up more time for direct work with children and families and staff. Participants will see real examples, learn best-practice approaches, and leave with clear ideas on how AI can support efficiency across their teams.

About the trainer
Emma Simpson
Emma started at CCS in 2016, initially as a Social Work Team Manager, then as Head of Adoption and now as CEO. She has worked closely with the Social Work Service, Therapeutic Service and the Adoption Support and seen growth and change. She has completed various leadership courses, a level 5 Management qualification, a Social Work diploma and an Architecture degree. She feels driven to help children find their forever family and home; to find staff and services that will help these children and to help their dedicated new parents find a way through childhood where happy memories can be made, whilst addressing the trauma that came before.
